SUITABILITY
The program has been tested on WindowsO versions 3.1, 3.11, Windows for WorkGroupsO 3.11 and Windows95O. As it is impossible to know all configurations of software and hardware possible on consumer's systems, use of this product is at your own risk.
INSTALLATION:
To install your new Screen Saver, take the following steps:
1. Insert the Setup Disk in drive A: (or drive B: if it is your 3.5 in drive)
2. From WindowsO Program Manager, select FILE from the Menu bar.
3. Select Run from the drop down window.
4. Type "A:Setup" (without the quotes) and click the OK button.
5. The program will install itself in the 'WINDOWS' directory of your harddrive. If any messages appear during the installation ensure you always click the 'IGNORE' button.
6. When the installation program has completed.,setup the screen saver like any Windows screen saver.( click the 'CONTROL PANEL' icon (usually located in your MAIN window) and click the 'DESKTOP' icon.)
7. Under the Screen Saver section, click on the 'Down' arrow and a dropdown list will appear. Choose the new screen saver. The program is now installed as your screen saver. You can adjust the no activity time interval to whatever is best for you.
8. To setup the screen saver features choose the 'SETUP' button and the Screen Saver Setup Screen will appear. The features are as follows:
SOUND ON/OFF: Clicking on this will put an 'X' in the box and the background music will be enabled. (Sound will only be heard if a sound card is properly installed)
MEMOTAKER IS/IS NOT ACTIVATED: Clicking on this will put an 'X' in the box and the MemoTaker feature will be enabled. (CAUTION: Before changing this setting, read the MemoTaker directions on next page)
VOLUME: Sliding this control will set the volume of the background music.
RANDOM SEQUENCE: Clicking on this will put an 'X' in the box and pictures will appear in no set sequence.
SLIDE CHANGE SPEED: Typing a number in this box determines how long each picture is displayed. The time is in seconds and a number between 4 and 10 is recommended.
PICTURE DIRECTORY: Type in the name of the directory where your picture files are kept (or choose 'BROWSE" to search for them). Picture files can be GIF,DIB,BMP or JPG.(Note 2)
SOUND DIRECTORY: Type in the name of the directory where your Sound files are kept (or choose 'BROWSE" to search for them). Sound Files can be WAV or MID. Sound files will play in a continuous loop.
CDAUDIO ENABLED/DISABLED: Clicking this box will enable or disable the playing of the Audio CD (Ensure you have one in the CD Player. If not, no sound file will play!)
CDAUDIO RANDOM PLAY ENABLED/DISABLED: Clicking on this will enable or disable the random play sequence of the CD AUDIO.
NOTE ON CDAUDIO: CDs will play continuously while the screen saver is active. In other words when it plays all the songs on the CD it will loop back through a random or sequential sequence whichever you have selected.
TILE BACKGROUND: Tile Background Enabled/Disabled: Checking this box will enable /disable the picture being tiled on the background during the exploder sequence (Picture grows gradually in the center of your screen)
PASSWORD: Allows you to input a password that enables only those that know the password access to your computer while the screen saver is active.
DONE: Clicking this saves your setup and closes the setup program.
CANCEL: Clicking this closes the setup program without saving changes.
USING MEMOTAKER:
1. The MemoTaker feature allows individuals to leave you messages while your screen saver is running and will still allow protection from unwanted intrusion into your system (if PASSWORD protected). It is activated by any key or mouse movement. Once the message is input, the screen will return to the screen saver. Messages can be up to 255 characters in length and will be date/time stamped when saved. The individuals must enter their name prior to leaving a message. This discourages anonymous messages.
2. The MemoTaker feature changes the way you must exit the screen saver. To exit the screen saver and read your messages (if there are no messages, you will just exit):
a. Press and hold the 'ALT' key and while still holding the 'ALT' key down, press the
'F12' key. (Combination ALT-F12) Because of this feature you must be using a 101
or 102 enhanced keyboard.
b. If there are messages waiting for you, they will be displayed ( if you have set a
password, you will need to enter it before the memo screen will appear.). You can then
highlight a message (By clicking on it) and click on the 'Display Full Message'
button to view the message in its entirety or press the "Print Message button to print
the messages.
NOTE 1: The messages will be DELETED when you press 'Exit' so make sure you have either read them all or printed them.
NOTE 2: JPEG (JPG) files are compressed. Due to this fact it will take longer for them to load and display. While they are loading two things will become apparent: The mouse movement and key press will not immediately respond. Any key you press while the JPG picture is loading will not take effect until the picture has finished loading (usually 3 to 5 seconds, depending on picture size) Another thing you may notice is that the picture being displayed may flash or lose its color for an instant. This is caused by the color palette change between the loading picture and the displayed picture. This problem is inherent to Windows because of the way Windows handles color palettes. There are also several different JPEG compression methods out there. I have tried to make this as compatible to as many as possible. If, by chance, you have a different compressed JPG file, the picture will be blank while this picture is displayed. It was either this way or have the program error out. Errors tend to make screen savers ineffective so I chose to allow the blank screen.
TO UN-INSTALL: Delete the Yourown.SCR file from your WINDOWS directory.
